At home she plays with her animals and feeds them

On our way back from school Luna and I …

Walk along beach and see the most beautiful rainbows.

(I will post some pictures weekly about what Luna and me do while the boys are at school. After we dropped of Bas we try to do something to break up the trip).

Bas took the school bus

At first I brought Bas back and forward to Agat together with Luna (Tom takes Ekko because his school is right by the university). But it was too much driving for Luna. For Bas it was about the same he was used too before, but me and Luna were exhausted. So we tried the school bus. We had to pick him up half way, but it made difference. I didn’t need to put Luna in the car sleeping (because school ends at 2.45 PM) and Bas loved going with the bus. Only it was the last bus stop so he was home later. He didn’t take the bus long because Ska ended up going to school with Bas so now we carpool. I bring the boys and Malo gets them back so he is home at 3.30 PM the latest. For a moment we had to find some compromises within the family. Bas that really wanted this school and Luna that ddidn’t want to be in that car that long. But look it all sorted out himself and Bas is an experience richer.

Bas goes to Mount Carmel School

Bas started first grade at Mount Carmel School in Agat, it is a school in the south. He has been going for a month an a half and he does great. It is a very special school. Their main focus is music and performing (dance). They have a music studio at school and are working in a dance studio as well. From first grade on they get lots of music, but it middle school they really get a LOT of music. In first grade they will start playing the ukulele, but as they move on they can pick their own instrument. They have a school band and they sometimes practice at lunch in the cafeteria, where they have a beautiful stage. Once a week they get to see the band, it is so much fun! Very funny Bas wants to be a rock star now. He draws them all the time.

Another focus is the Chamorro language. Every day they have an hour of Chamorro. It is so funny when he comes home; he tells me things in Chamorro, which I don’t understand. He sings in Chamorro, prays in Chamorro and tells me Chamorro legends.

His teacher is called ms Aguon, she is very nice, I like her a lot. I tell a story in her class once in a while that is biology related. The class has 20 students and they have another 1st grade class (Ska is going start in that class tomorrow, they had still more space).

The school is old but has so much character. Tom has to laugh because I told I love the wooden blinds they have in the classroom. The tree in the playground gives it a spirit.

There probably is a lot more I want to say about the school, but this is as far as I get now.

Ekko loves going to school

Ekko started in the Montessori school the second week of August. We started him a semester later because he wasn’t ready for it. But now he was. He dances into school and says happily goodbye to Tom. Auntie Marie says it is so much fun having him in the group. He loves to make friends and wants to take care of the little ones. He does his work and puts it nicely away afterwards. He doesn’t like to wear his shoes, (oeps moms) but lucky thing they don’t mind at school. When he comes talks about his teachers and says he loves to draw (I think he likes his personal crayon box at school and indeed lately all he wants to do is draw, and also he wants me to draw stuff and then he has to laugh and laugh when he colors it away (in the Ekko way), I’m starting art class again, that will be fun). Bas only started a week later, in a different school, so he was the big boy driving to school with papa in the pick up truck. He always gives everybody a big kiss before school time, so cute!!!!!!

Papa and Luna: sweet ...

Waking up in the morning

Something both Tom and me will remember when are kids are grown up is the way we woke up in the morning: Ekko pulling us, wanting to play, Bas snuggling, Luna our long sleeper. We have different wake-up scenarios but this is the most common. Bas sometimes takes Ekko along and prepares breakfast for him and himself (and Luna if she is awake) and wakes up saying ours is ready too. Once they are awake they love to jump on the beds and wants us to join their play.

Of course we sleep in once in a while, Tom or me take the kids for a bike ride so the other can sleep in. Sometimes, if Tom sleeps really long they want to wake him up and then I can’t do anything else but release my lions.

Dave and Chie married

We had a fun evening celebrating Dave and Chie’s wedding. Dave and she are avid divers. He even has the most amazing website up where he shares his pictures and knowledge with everyone about reef life: http://www.guamreeflife.com . Very beautiful and useful!
Because they share the love of the underwater world, Bas drew them an ocean picture.

We miss you like crazy

They left … we think about them every day.

Bas is wondering what school Emily will go too, Ekko sings a birthday song for her. Luna wants Emily to tie her dress and I want to hear her happy morning voice.

Bas wants to organize a birthday party for Luna and Anna, Ekko still picks her flowers and puts them in a bag, Luna wants to swing with her and sing Anna-Marieke, and I want to hold her sing the same song over and over again.

When we swim in the Hyatt we wish Neal would greet us friendly.

And we all wonder why Penny is not with us anymore, to light that candle, to play at the beach, to sing those songs and to give us the comfort that would warm our hearths.

We all miss you so much!!!! But I know we will be friends forever and meet one day soon!!!!!! We wish you all the happiness in the world!

Rainy season

It is rainy season and it is pouring. No outside play? Of course, in those big puddles, in the rain and in the sun followed after. Lots of bikin, swimming, sitting and especially lots of laughing (Penny, Emily and Anna left after this).

Er werd gereden, gezwommen, gezeten en vooral veel gelachen (Penny, Emily and Anna left after this).
